If there is a specific crack within the material, N and S poles form at the start and end regions of this crack. These formed polar lines are oriented by interacting with surface-deposited dust particles under the magnetic field. In this way, the detection of invisible dust particles is achieved. The magnetic particle flaw detection device is applicable to all ferromagnetic materials with magnetic permeability above 100. Since 300-grade austenitic steels have very low magnetic susceptibility, they do not respond to the MPI testing device.
