12x12 mm Samarium Cobalt Magnet (SmCo)

The samarium-cobalt (SmCo) magnet, a type of rare earth magnet, is a strong permanent magnet composed of the elements samarium and cobalt. These magnets are known for their strong structure and can withstand higher temperatures, although they have similar strengths to neodymium magnets.

Properties of Samarium Cobalt Magnets:

Resistance to Demagnetization: Samarium-cobalt magnets are highly resistant to demagnetization.

High Temperature Resistance: Maximum operating temperatures 250°C (523 K

The samarium-cobalt (SmCo) magnet, a type of rare earth magnet, is a strong permanent magnet composed of the elements samarium and cobalt. These magnets are known for their strong structure and can withstand higher temperatures, although they have similar strengths to neodymium magnets.

Properties of Samarium Cobalt Magnets:

  • Resistance to Demagnetization: Samarium-cobalt magnets are highly resistant to demagnetization.
  • High Temperature Resistance: Maximum operating temperatures are between 250°C (523 K) and 550°C (823 K); Curie temperatures are between 700°C (973 K) and 800°C (1,070 K).
  • Cost: Expensive due to the elements they contain.
  • Corrosion and Oxidation Resistance: They have a strong resistance to corrosion and oxidation and generally do not need to be coated.
  • Working Conditions: They can be widely used in high temperature and harsh working conditions.
  • Brittleness: They are brittle and prone to cracking and chipping.
  • Energy Product: They have maximum energy products ranging from 14 MG-Oe (112 kJ/m³) to 33 MG-Oe (264 kJ/m³); their theoretical limit is around 34 MG-Oe (272 kJ/m³).

Samarium cobalt magnets are an ideal choice for high performance applications, especially in high temperature and harsh operating conditions.
