Triangular Type Samarium Cobalt Magnet (Trapezoid Magnet)
The samarium-cobalt (SmCo) magnet, a type of rare earth magnet, is a powerful permanent magnet composed of two basic elements. The elements samarium and cobalt provide a very strong structure for this permanent magnet.
SmCo samarium cobalt magnets are very similar in strength to neodymium magnets, but can withstand higher temperatures.
Properties of Samarium Cobalt Magnets:
- Resistance to Demagnetization: Samarium-cobalt magnets are highly resistant to demagnetization.
- High Temperature Resistance: Maximum operating temperatures range from 250 °C (523 K) to 550 °C (823 K); Curie temperatures range from 700 °C (973 K) to 800 °C (1,070 K).
- Cost: Expensive due to the elements they contain.
- Corrosion and Oxidation Resistance: Samarium-cobalt magnets have a strong resistance to corrosion and oxidation and usually do not need to be coated.
- Uses: They are widely used in high temperature and harsh working conditions.
- Fragility: They are brittle and prone to cracking and chipping.
- Energy Product: Samarium-cobalt magnets have maximum energy products (BH max) ranging from 14 megagauss-oersted (MG-Oe) to 33 MG-Oe, which means approximately 112 kJ/m³ to 264 kJ/m³. Their theoretical limit is 34 MG-Oe, about 272 kJ/m³.
Samarium-cobalt magnets are an ideal choice for applications requiring high performance and durability.
